DALLAS, August 15, 2017 — The American Heart Association – the world’s leading voluntary health organization devoted to fighting cardiovascular disease – will now require the use of an instrumented directive feedback device in all courses that teach adult CPR skills, effective January 31, 2019. The devices provide, real-time, audiovisual and corrective evaluation and instruction on chest compression rate, depth, chest recoil and proper hand placement during CPR training.
We along with several people in the CPR training and supply field sometimes become confused when we try to decipher the 2019 AHA guidelines. Let's see if we can clarify some of the most common questions concerning these new guidelines.
Question: Must you have feedback on chest compression rate, depth, chest recoil AND proper hand placement?
Answer: We believe so. This means that you may need more than one feedback device. Our Prestan Professional manikins have a clicker (audio) and lights (visual) that provide feedback for the student in real time.
